Although everything may look nice and tidy on the outside, a peek behind your closet or inside the drawers often reveals the truth. Don't put it off anymore today's the day you're going to organize your closet! But you may be thinking but I'm o.k. I know where everything is "Why should I organize my closet?" Having an organized closet makes it easier for you to find clothes for the proper occasion. From clothes to shoes and other life accessories, most days start in the closet. For example how many times did you experienced being late getting to work or any occasion because of too much time spent looking for something to wear in your disorganized closets, you remember that where those pair of shoes used to be but now when you need then they're no where to be found. I could still remember my mother telling me everyday early in the morning "Barry when do you plan to fix your closet that closet of yours?" Well I did get around to it and here are my easy tips on how you can start organize your closet: First thing first, you need to remove everything inside your closet so that you can start cleaning your closet first. It's bound to have collected dust and grime over a period of time and you really don't want to be putting your clothes back into a "grimy" closet. Then after cleaning your closets out make sure to sort out your clothes into smaller groups. Groups like all the shoes together, casual clothes, formal clothes together etc you get the idea. Then when this is done further break these groups down into smaller groups for example seasonal, clothes you regularly wear, one's you don't wear often and "Yes" even a pile of clothes that you've bought and never worn. (We've all been in that situation it looked great in the shop but now "Oh my God what was I thinking?") I know it can be hard to put some of your old favorites in a bag marker "charity shop" because some clothes can have great memories that you link to them and this is where a second party can come in very handy. They have an independent eye and are able to give you some guidance or what you really should keep and what goes. Sometimes we can be our own worst enemies and can talk ourselves around, and before you know the charity bags still empty and you're putting everything back in your closet. Then when you have this done the items that you use or may need to refer to often, should be placed back in your closet. All the other out of season clothes can be put in one of those big vacuum bags and shrunk down and placed in your hot press until they're needed again. I could go into more detail about how you can organize your closet now but I'll leave that for another article all I'll say is find whatever system will work best for you something where you can find anything you need in the minimum amount of time. Even doing these simple things will make a great difference to your closet. You'll be surprised how you can get away with a smaller amount of clothes in your closet. Don't forget though that you need to periodically clear out items that are hopelessly old or will never be used to keep the clutter down to minimum in future. Believe me it's a fulfillment in itself having an organized closet. You'll feel better mentally knowing that at least one part of your life now is a clutter free zone. I know that you've used every possible excuse for delaying organizing your closet in the past but now its time you took the bull by the horns and did something about it. |
